Nuttell nets Pinchbeck United winner to keep fourth bid on track at Desborough

Desborough Town 0
Pinchbeck United 1

Jordan Nuttell fired the only goal on Saturday as Pinchbeck United edged out Desborough Town 1-0 to strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division.

Striker Nuttell, who has been plagued by injury this season, met an Alex Beck cross at the back post on 49 minutes to settle the Waterworks Field showdown.

Knights player/boss Ian Dunn felt his side were worthy winners but admitted it was a bit of a struggle.

Dunn said: “It was a thoroughly deserved three points in my opinion.

“We created openings, but nothing really clear cut. It was one of those games where I felt we dominated possession and looked the more likely to score, but it was a game devoid of clear cut chances.

“The one really good chance that we had was tucked away nicely by Jordan Nuttell.

“It was really good for him to get that goal, he’s been working to come back gradually from injury and got another hour under his belt.

“It was a good cross in from Alex Beck and he did well to get on the end of it.

“In the end, I don’t really think that our keeper had anything to do. He had a good afternoon, came for a few crosses and didn’t really have a shot to save – so it was a great day at the office.

“It was as simple as us taking the best chance of the game, which is why we won.

“It was good to see Charlie West perform much better today. By his own standards he didn’t perform at his best last week, but played well.

“Jon Smith was also much better when he came on and did well when we pushed Ollie Maltby up top.

“We missed Stacy Cartwright, Tony Edwards and Andrew Tidswell, so we had quite a young bench. It was a tight game and a difficult one to bring subs into. It’s one of those things, sometimes in football you’ve got to see the game out and the lads on the pitch did that very well.”

Knights: Gorman, Field, Jackson, Wilson, Shipley, Beeson, West, Vince, Maltby, Beck, Nuttell. Sub used: Smith. Not used: Ross, Gaukroger.
