Shipley strikes back but Knights are held

A Chris Shipley goal continued Pinchbeck United’s unbeaten run at Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday night, but the Knights were frustrated in their bid for the three points.

It was a lacklustre showing in the first half from Pinchbeck and they fell behind just after the half hour mark.

Ricky Lovelace had no chance when Tom Mann curled home a 25-yard screamer to give the home side a lead.

A comfortably saved Harry Vince effort was all Pinchbeck had to show from the first half.

They did respond in the second period though and levelled in the 64th minute.

A corner was only half cleared and midfielder Chris Shipley hooked the ball over the head of everyone and into the net.

United piled forward late on and had the better of the chances.

Lee Beeson headed over after a good ball in from Stacy Cartwright.

The Knights’ best chance fell to Ollie Maltby just four minutes from time.

He found a bit of space in the box but his effort only found the side netting.

Moments later Maltby went close again but this time the effort was tipped so deftly round the post by the keeper the referee gave a goal kick.

Despite seven minutes of injury time added on due to several stoppages, Pinchbeck were unable to find a winner and had to settle for a points.

Knights: Lovelace, Wilson, Cartwright, Shipley, Jackson, West (Field 77), Beeson, Vince, Maltby, Nuttell (Beck 45), J Smith (Dunn 77).
MOTM: Chris Shipley.
