Fancy a new sport? Popular Spalding Water Polo are looking for new members

Successful Spalding Water Polo are looking to expand their junior section – and would like you to give them a try.

Water polo is a seven-a-side game played by swimmers in a pool, with a ball like a football that is thrown into the opponents’ goal.

Spalding has a junior and senior set up on a Tuesday night. They are always looking for new players and the only requirements are the ability to swim and tread water; as in water polo you are not able to use the bottom or the sides to stand or push off.

It’s a fun, fast paced, energetic activity that combines different sports like basketball, rugby and swimming.

Anyone is welcome to have a try and join in, with the club also having many girls and ladies who play at the Castle pool in Spalding.

As well as enjoying their water polo, there is a strong social side within the group, with outings (including families) throughout the year and occasional fund-raising events for various causes.

They always meet after training (and home matches) at their ‘club pub’, The Moorings, where they enjoy some excellent beer, as well as delicious food kindly provided by hosts Steve and Jill Moore.

Their support is particularly appreciated for their ‘legendary’ meals for both teams after a home fixture.

If that sounds like it’s of interest, you are welcome to visit the Spalding Castle Swimming Pool on Tuesday evenings at the following times: Juniors (U16s) from 6.45pm onwards; Seniors (16+) from 8.30pm onwards.

You can also get in touch on Facebook (Spalding Water Polo) or Twitter (@spaldingwpolo) if you need any further information.
