Town looks for parking solution

Crowland Parish Council has written to South Holland District Parish Council asking about the possibility of purchasing land that could be turned into a car park for the town.

Concerns over parking in Crowland have frequently been aired, particularly in respect of a lack of spaces which many have argued puts people off using town centre amenities.

A spokesman for Crowland Parish Council said: “We’re aware of the parking problems and are currently working with South Holland District Council to resolve the issue.”

Possible locations for the new parking spots were spoken about at the December meeting of Crowland Parish Council.

The options discussed include extending the lay-by at the top of Albion Street into the green area at Trinity Court.

Other suggestions at the meeting included demolishing the West Street Bus Shelter and using the space behind together with the green as car parking.

However the meeting was told by several members that they believed a brick tunnel is beneath the greens which could make the land unsuitable for a car park, and other members expressed concern over the loss of the green areas.

The council is also working with Lincolnshire County Council with regards how it could progress with implementing and enforcing parking restrictions.

The issue over parking in Crowland was also raised by South Holland District Councillor for Crowland Bryan Alocock at that authority’s recent Cabinet meeting which heard about the plans for plans to create an electronic charging unit in the town.

He expressed concerns over how the parking would be kept for electric cars and not be used by other vehicles looking for a spot.
