Defeats for Tulips and Tigers but fine win for Pinchbeck – Weekend round up

Spalding United were edged out 2-1 by Cleethorpes Town in the Evo-Stik East Division this afternoon.

Josh Batty gave the visitors to the Halley Stewart the lead five minutes before half time, but the Tulips responded well with Kieran Wells scoring his second in two games to level in the 55th minute.

A tight game was settled by a Scott Vernon header in the 78th minute and despite putting Cleethorpes under considerable pressure late on, Spalding were unable to find a leveller.

  • Ahead of their Boxing Day derby, Pinchbeck United jumped above Holbeach United and into third position in the United Counties League Premier Division after contrasting afternoons.

While Holbeach lost 2-0 at the previously fifth placed side Eynesbury United, Pinchbeck comfortably beat previously fourth placed Deeping Rangers 4-1.

Deeping led for much of the first half after Kasey Douglas’s goal but the Knights came marauding back in the second period with two goals from Fraser Bayliss, Chris Shipley and a Lee Beeson penalty that made it 2-1 and resulted in the sending off of Deeping’s Luke Anderson.

The only blemish for manager Ian Dunn was that with the game already won, Nick Bishop will  face a suspension after being sent off for a second yellow late on.

  • Peterborough and District League Premier Division leaders Moulton Harrox thrashed Ketton 8-0, six of the goals coming in the first half. Moulton’s goalscorers were Watkin, Parry, Earth (2), McGuire, Maddison (2), and Coddington.
