KFC seek planning permission for Spalding branch

A much anticipated branch of KFC could be set for Spalding after planning permission for the fast food outlet was submitted.

South Holland District Council will decide whether to approve the drive-through and sit in restaurant off the A16/A151 roundabout near Springfields Shopping Outlet after the plans were submitted to the authority last Thursday, November 29.

Documents submitted with the application say that the new KFC will create “nearly 30 jobs” if its allowed to be built alongside the A16 opposite the roundabout from the existing McDonald’s restaurant.

KFC had been known to be looking at opening a branch in the town for several months and had also been considering a sight at the Lincolnshire Gateway development further south down the A16.

The single-storey structure will be take up approximately 50 per cent of the currently undeveloped site.

The plans are for 33 customer car parking spaces while the application calls for a pedestrian crossing to be created on Fulney Lane North from which the new site would be accessed.

A Design and Access Statement provided by applicant SME Corporation Ltd as part of the application, said: “The design maximises the use of the site providing the maximum car parking provision available whilst being sympathetic to the existing environment, and allowing future development if the climate allows.

It concludes: “The proposed will make a positive contribution towards redevelopment and
regeneration of the area.

“The proposal provides practical buildings of high quality that will complement the commercial area.”
