Winning views of the River Welland

Lorraine Swepson and Veronica Pryke were the big winners in Spalding Arts and Craft Society’s River Welland Painting Competition.

An exhibition of all the entries has taken place at Spalding Library over recent weeks and the public was asked to vote for their favourite image of the town’s river as created by the artists.

Lorraine’s work entitled Twilight Over the Welland won the combined members and library vote.
Veroncia’s creation, The Welland from Little London Bridge was voted the top picture by the members.

Clare Ratcliffe was voted third by both members and the public for her picture The Lincolnshire Poacher.

All the prizes awarded were provided by arts stockist SAA.

A spokesman for the group said: “The exhibition proved very popular. Thanks to all the people who took the time to vote for their favourite painting and to leave comments in the visitors book.”

The exhibition will be on display again at the Autumn Craft Fair at Springfields Exhibition Centre on October 14.
