Brewing up for cancer charity

South Holland had its cake and ate it last week – all in the name of charity.

A host of Macmillan Coffee Mornings have been to raise money for the charity that supports those affected by cancer.

It’s something that people of all ages can get involved in with five-year-old Brogan Marshall from Deeping St Nicholas leading the way.

He wanted to put on an event to celebrate his great-grandfather John Marshall.

In John’s memory, Brogan raised nearly £100.

One of those to get involved was regular coffee morning holder Lorna Webb and her team of helpers put on a coffee morning.

Visitors to her Pinchbeck home enjoyed scones served with the coffee and stalls selling homemade baking, preserves, plants and vegetables and a raffle.

Mrs Webb’s helpers were Brenda Robinson, Jean Hill, Ann Cooper, Irene Wright, Jack Twaite, Sue Waring, Carole Pates and Phyllis Baxter.

Many of the events took place on Friday, September 27 including one at Gosberton Hall that raised £281.72 in just two hours.

Other events include a total of over £230 being raised by staff at the Addo Food Group at its Spalding Bakery on Fulney Lane.

They got into the spirit by selling cakes and running competitions including ‘Guess the Length of the Roll’.

Nearby at Bicker, Vicki Maltby and Helen Talks raised a fantastic total of over £700 at their event in the Village Hall.

The coffee mornings keep coming.

The Crafty Ladies of Walpole Art and Craft Club are holding a coffee morning at Walpole St Peter Village Hall from 9.30am to 12 noon on Friday, October 12.
