South Holland drivers were in the thick of the action at King’s Lynn on Saturday night with significant performances in all three formulas on the night – the F1 Stock Cars, 2L Stock Cars and 1300 Stock Cars.
Finn Sargent had what was probably his best ever performance in the F1 Stock Cars on shale with a brace of top ten finishes, including a fantastic fourth place finish in the first main heat which had several of the sports big guns in action.
Wes Starmer was certainly very much in the middle of the action in the 2L Stock Cars – particularly in the Driver of the Year final. A fine performance by Starmer saw him lead the big race for several laps only for him to lose his advantage at the front when the race was stopped to allow attention to World Champion Max Stott.
European Champion Diggy Smith moved past Starmer, who stayed with the champion for several laps but was soon fighting a rearguard action to protect his place from an attack from Lee Sampson.
Sampson eventually got past but a determined Starmer stuck with him and launched a big attack on the final bend. Starmer moved up the inside to take second coming out of the last bend, but in the clash with Sampson ended up rolling over the finish line.
However, he still came home in second place while coming over on his roof.
Completing last Saturday’s action was the 1300 Stock Cars. There was more local success in this with Ricky Ivatt having his best ever meeting in the formula.
He looked much more comfortable out on track than he had been earlier in the season.
The White and Yellows race saw him take his first ever victory in the formula which was great to see.
Ivatt then came close to winning the first heat proper when he built up a big lead only to be spun out by a backmarking driver. He then bounced back to take some more good places.
Racing returns to the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday (5pm).
