Spalding’s Double Street closed due to bomb fears

V NEWS

The army bomb squad was called to Spalding last night after police found a suspicious package.

Officers discovered the unidentified object when they were called to Waterside Court at 3.20pm in response to a suspected drugs offence.

A number of cannabis plants were found and while searching the property police found the package.

As a standard precautionary measure, the army’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was consulted and attended to remove the item.

To ensure public safety, Double Street was closed while officers at the scene waited for the EOD’s arrival.

The package was examined and found to be safe.

A 50-year-old man was cautioned for the drugs offence.

Community Policing Inspector Jim Tyner said: “Double Street was closed until 8pm and this caused considerable disruption, particularly at going-home time.

“I would like to thank people for their patience during this time.”
