CYCLING: Palmer leads Spalding CC riders in

Spalding Cycling Club members were in action at the weekend in the LRRA 50 mile Time Trial, hosted this year by Sleaford Wheelers.

Won by Joel Wainman, of Team Swift, in 1:48.10, Neil Palmer led the Spalding team home in 1:59:04 for 12th, Chris Ward was just 28 seconds off getting inside two hours in 15th and Andrew Gurney was 35th with 2:10:06.
Simon Wright, whose consistent form this year has produced some fine times over ten miles, returned in 47th 2:14:28.
Joe Andrews (2:22.03) and Barry Drew (2:23.49) finished just two places apart.
Sarah Bentley was troubled by cramp which forced her to stop but still recorded 2:34.48 for 60th.

* 10-Mile League on June 3 (26 members and two regular guests from Spalding Tri Club): Four PBs were clocked – Jake Norton 26.46, Ross McGivern 27.03, Rob Boothman 27.04 and Sophie Wright 33.03.
Guest riders Kayleigh Adams and C Wookey recorded PBs with 29.28 and 32.04.
The top three of Neil Palmer, Chris Ward and Sam Bentley continue to dominate (23.22, 23.53 and 24.05 respectively), so it was down to fast improving Chris Pratt (24.52) and Andy Bowser (25.02) to bring the rest of the field home.
Rob Boothman’s 27.04 was matched by Chris Peel tying for 10th.
Under-16s’ win went to Jake Norton whose 26.46 PB ride claimed 8th, with second placed Matt Ellis in 27.29.
Top lady was Katie Butler in 30.13 and Sophie Wright, in the Under-16s, improved with a PB of 33.03.

* Event 7, in difficult wind conditions had the smallest field so far this year with only 22 riders.
Neil Palmer 23.57; Chris Ward 24.13; Sam Bentley 25.20; Gerry Charlwood 27.22; Matt Ellis (best Under-16) 27.41; Aimee Stocker (first lady) 27.52; Ross McGivern 27.54; Jake Norton 28:53.
Will Gurney and Sophie Wright both slowed over the course compared to their previous week’s rides.
Guest riders Kayleigh Adams and C Wookey were also affected by the conditions but returned times of 29.53 and 33.47.
