Saturday football: Derby delight for Holbeach United, late goals fire Spalding United to FA Cup victory

Goals from Josh Ford and Spencer Tinkler secured Holbeach United a 2-0 derby win at Boston Town on Saturday, while Spalding United scored twice in the final five minutes to beat Wellingborough Town 3-2 in the Emirates FA Cup.

Starting with the Tigers, a first-half effort from Ford gave them a 1-0 lead at the break, before captain Tinkler doubled the lead at the DWB Stadium.

The victory in what was the only league game played on Saturday moves Seb Hayes’ side up to sixth in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division.

Meanwhile, Spalding had a ding-dong FA Cup clash with UCL Premier Division side Wellingborough at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Leon Mettam put the Tulips ahead on 42 minutes, but Adam Speight levelled just before half-time.

The Doughboys went ahead 15 minutes from time when Guiseppe Freitas netted from the penalty spot, but Gary King jumped off the bench to level (85) and Danny Brooks (88) then won it from the penalty spot.

In the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Tydd enjoyed a fine 3-2 victory over ICA Sports and Long Sutton Athletic drew 1-1 at home to Whittlesey Athletic to register their first point of the season.

But Sutton Bridge United were walloped 7-0 at champions Netherton United and Holbeach United Reserves went down 4-2 at Langtoft United.
