GOLF: Spalding ladies see off Belton Woods, Greetham Valley and Melton Mowbray

V SPORT

It was a case of home comforts for Spalding Golf Club as they cruised to victory in the annual ladies’ four-way match at the Surfleet course.

The home team of Jenny Wilson (26 points), Chris Vickers (34), Angela Roper (35), Lesley Williams (32), Ruth Atkins (28), Paula Brown (28), Hannah Thorold (32) and Rowena Hughes (30) earned Spalding a grand total of 245 Stableford points to take top spot.
That saw then finish way ahead of Belton Woods in second (197), with Melton Mowbray (191) and Greetham Valley (189) finishing third and fourth respectively.

* Spalding ladies’ ‘B’ team suffered a 3.5-0.5 loss at Greetham Valley in their latest league match.
Sue Dewar and Debra Ward got Spalding’s half, with Anita Cross and Paula Brown (5&3), Barbara Newcombe and Anne Ellis lost (4&3) and Sue Watson and Jean White (3&2) all suffering defeats.

* Dianne Platt scored a magnificent 40 points to win Spalding’s popular Grannies Cup event.
The scorching success reduced her handicap by one point and, under the ‘exceptional scoring reduction’ rule, by one more.
Platt’s handicap, therefore, was cut from 10 to 8.
Second place went to Chris Vickers with 36 points ahead of Lynda Double (35) in third.
