Fire crews deal with more combine harvesters on fire

Two more fires involving combine harvesters were reported in South Holland last night, Wednesday.

Reader Dave Gray caught dramatic pictures of one on fire just outside Crowland which also destroyed 200 square metres of straw stubble.

It was reported around 7.45pm and extinguished by crews from Crowland and Spalding using two hose reels, a main jet and beaters.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said the fire was “caused by a fault within the harvester”.

Less than two hours later Spalding joined Donington Fire Crew on North Drove, Quadring Fen for another combine harvester fire.

Crews used one hose reel to extinguish the fire which damaged a small quantity of chaff and straw within the engine compartment.

It follows two combine harvesters being reported on fire on Monday when 24 acres was destroyed in Surfleet and a harvester damaged at Moulton Seas End.
