Rayment relaxed over Ross’s Spalding U-turn

Pat Rayment admits he has “mixed emotions” over Ian Ross’ decision to turn down Spalding United.

The former Boston United skipper, who is now likely to join Belper Town, had agreed terms with the Tulips prior to going on holiday.

But he’s since informed Tulips chief Pat Rayment that he’s decided against the switch to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

That frees up some money in Spalding’s budget, but Rayment doesn’t expect to do any more business before pre-season begins.

He said: “Ian would have been a good signing, but I’m already well-stocked in midfield.

“He apologised to me as we had shaken on a deal, but this happens in football all the time.

“I’m not fussed either way now. We made him a great offer, so that means there’s room in our budget to get one big player if we need to.

“I’m going to sit back and see what happens in pre-season before making my mind up. The squad is already very strong.”
