Saturday football: Bird hat-trick gets Holbeach United flying again

A hat-trick from Will Bird helped Holbeach United get back to winning ways on Saturday, but Pinchbeck United saw yet another weekend fixture postponed.

Holbeach, who had lost two on the spin in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division, climbed up to fourth in the table with a 4-0 win at struggling St Andrews.

Bird’s treble and a Mitch Griffiths strike saw the Tigers move above Deeping Rangers in the table – and they are now just three points behind second-placed Wisbech Town ahead of the pair’s clash at Carter’s Park on Monday (3pm).

In ChromaSport UCL Division One, leaders Pinchbeck saw a Saturday game postponed for the fifth week on the spin.

They were once again unable to make the trip to Thrapston Town due to a waterlogged pitch.

However, the Knights remain eight points clear at the top with two games in hand ahead of Monday’s home date with Harrowby United (3pm).

Spalding United, meanwhile, lost 3-1 at home to Loughborough Dynamo. Click here for a full report from that one.

The Tulips visit Peterborough Sports on Monday (also 3pm).

Elsewhere, fixtures in the ChromaSport PDFL were harshly hit by the rain – including Moulton Harrox’s Premier Division game at Thorney.

Holbeach United Reserves did manage a big 4-1 win over Stanground Sports in the top flight, while in Division One Long Sutton won a nine-goal thriller with Tydd St Mary 5-4 at London Road.

In cup competition, Moulton Harrox Reserves reached the final of the PFA Challenge Cup after seeing off Eye United 4-0 at Broad Lane.  Dec Earth (2), Martin Sandall and Jack Wycherley got the goals.

They will face Stamford Belvedere in the final.
