Saturday football: Tulips held by Belper as Tigers and Pinchbeck are left kicking their heels

Spalding United were held to a 1-1 draw by Belper Town in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South on Saturday, while Holbeach United and Pinchbeck United were without a game.

On a day hit by freezing temperatures and adverse weather, Spalding took a first-half lead thanks to Danny Brooks’ first-half penalty (18).

However, Belper levelled on 62 minutes thanks to a strike from Lee Williamson, ensuring that the spoils were shared at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

The draw, played out in front of a crowd of just 69, sees Spalding move ten points clear of the drop zone.

Defender Kern Miller started for the Tulips after sealing a return to the club on Friday.

Meanwhile, Holbeach saw their ChromaSport UCL Premier Division game postponed – because rivals Northampton Sileby Rangers couldn’t raise a side.

Pinchbeck’s UCL Division One game at Irchester United was also called off, with standing water present on the Alfred Street pitch.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox suffered a 2-1 Premier Division defeat at Whittlesey Athletic and are now third in the table.

Sutton Bridge United did enjoy a 2-0 victory at Langtoft United, though, to go fifth in the standings.

Down in Division One, leaders Moulton Harrox Reserves beat Oundle Town 1-0 to stay five points clear at the summit.

Third-placed Long Sutton Athletic went down 1-0 at second-placed Wittering Harriers, while Tydd St Mary are fourth after their 3-1 success at Stamford Belvedere.

More to follow in Thursday’s Spalding Voice and on www.spaldingvoice.co.uk throughout the week.
