Busiest year ever for emergency volunteer charity

A Lincolnshire charity is appealing for help after its busiest year on record.

LIVES helped 21,550 people during 2017, an increase of 1,000 over the previous year.

Volunteers help in a range of emergency situations from road collisions to falls.

December saw more than 2,020 people attended by a LIVES responder.

Although the care is delivered by volunteers, the cost of training and keeping them on the road means the charity needs to raise more funds from the public.

“2017 has been a phenomenal year for our volunteers and we’re grateful to each and every one of them for their immense support and dedication to being there for their community in time of greatest immediate need, day or night, whatever the weather,” said Nikki Silver, chief executive.

The charity is a registered charity which provides trained volunteers to medical emergencies responding to 999 calls for an ambulance.

The responders are healthcare professionals; doctors, nurses paramedics and technicians, who proved advance or critical care to support the ambulance service.

“We know for every person we help, there are many others in emergency we simply cannot get to. The Lincolnshire public are extremely supportive of our work and we really hope that in 2018 they can consider getting behind

LIVES to help us be there for their neighbours, family and friends should they need us,” added Nikki.

The service costs more than £1.3m to run each year, which equates to around £60 per person helped.
