The family of a well-known hairdresser from Spalding say they are “overwhelmed” by the support they have received following his sudden death.
Clayton Gilks (pictured) died at his home on May 27, aged 48.
He was currently working with Stuart Taylor at Stuart’s Barber’s in New Road, and had previously owned a hairdresser’s shop – House of Aquarius – in Broad Street.
Clayton started his career in Crowland and had also worked in Hereford.
Recently he had been in Lincoln supporting a charity for homeless people called BeAttitude.
Cycling had become a keen hobby of Clayton’s and this year he’d completed a London to Paris ride.
And he was organising a solo fundraising ride from John O’ Groats to Land’s End, which he was planning to undertake imminently.
Clayton’s brothers Stuart (50) and Matt (44) now plan to do the ride next year as a tribute to their brother.
Meanwhile, news of his death has led to a flood of tributes being paid on a Facebook page.
A statement issued on behalf of Clayton’s family, including parents Thomas and Daphne, said: “We are overwhelmed by the response we have received and it is clear that he helped a lot of people and was loved by a lot of people.”
A funeral service will be held at South Lincs Crematorium in Surfleet on Thursday, June 12 at noon.
This will be followed at 1pm by a tribute to Clayton at Ayscoughfee Hall in Spalding, where he had worked as a volunteer.
