Snooker round-up: Division Two leaders Services C beaten by Donington A in classic contest

Third-placed Donington A edged out Division Two leaders Services C 4-2 in a Spalding and District Snooker League classic on Thursday.

With three of the five frames going to the final black, wins from Chriss Allwood (O7), Nigel Brasier (scr) and John George (R14) did the job for Donington – who are now just five points off the summit.

That result allowed Boundary C to join Services at the top after their 5-1 home success over Services F.

Josh Aggar (O7) made a 22 break for the Deepings side in that one.

The big winners in the second tier were Gosberton A, though, as they beat hosts Long Sutton C 6-0.

Peter Waterfall (R21), Adam Twigg (O14), Jamie Mumby (R14), Carl Wand (O7) and Geoff Wand (R7) were all frame winners.

At the foot, Holbeach B pipped Pyramid D 4-2 to leapfrog them in the table.

Neil Harvey’s (O7) final frame success over Pete Jackson (R7) was key.

Up in Division One, Holbeach A lost ground in the title race with a 5-1 defeat at Pyramid B. A 25 clearance from Jason Green (O70) was the highlight for the Bourne side, while Neal Jackson (O21) also reeled off a 25 break.

That result helped Services E move level with Holbeach on 48 points in joint second.

They were 4-2 victors at Boundary A in a close contest, with Phil Spencer (O7) clinching the success in the penultimate frame.

Elsewhere in the top tier, it was a good week for resurgent Tulips A.

They whitewashed Consti F 6-0 in a match that saw Nic Savic (O42) make a 22 clearance and are now fifth in the standings.

Donington C also won well to edge clear of the drop zone. They saw off hosts Tulips B 5-1 despite a 23 break from home player Ady Sibley (O14).

Tulips B did enjoy a 5-1 victory over Consti B to ease the pain of that loss, though.

Struggling Long Sutton A bagged a 5-1 win too, with Sean Swinburn (O42) pocketing a cool 28 break against Holbeach D.

In Division Three, leaders Crowland C slipped to a second defeat on the spin.

Services B were their conquerors, with Jeff Collins (R14), Paul Doades (R7) and Tim Nash (O42) doing the damage early on.

That allowed Consti I to close to within six points of the top – with a game in hand – after a 4-2 triumph over Consti E. Kevin Sweeney (scr) grabbed the vital frame win.

Another Consti side, the J team, beat Gosberton C 4-2 with Stew Davies (O7) making a 22 clearance.

In the Norey Cup, Jason Green made a 40 break and 30 clearance as Pyramid F beat Gosberton A 6-0.
