Fen Bridge in Crowland set to close for repairs

A bridge across the River Welland will be closed for the second time this year.

Fen Bridge, Crowland, will be closed during the day from Tuesday while work is carried out.

The repair work could not be fully completed earlier this year due to an issue with a water main.

Anglian Water is now temporarily diverting the main so the team, working on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council, can complete the work.

There were pleas in February not to close the bridge completely to traffic, but the council has said it is too narrow to remain open.

The bridge will be closed during the day, but open evenings and weekends with temporary traffic lights.

“We are now ready to divert the present mains over the bridge and complete the repairs. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and would like to thank people for their ongoing patience,” said Andrew Antcliff, senior bridge engineer.

A diversion route will be via the B1166, B1040, A16, B1443, A15, B1524 and B1166.
