Saturday football: Tulips off to winning start, Tigers top of the tree and Knights held

Spalding United made a winning start to the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South season by beating hosts Stocksbridge Park Steels 2-0 on Saturday, while Holbeach United beat ON Chenecks 3-0 and Pinchbeck United drew 1-1 with Lutterworth Town.

Starting with the Tulips, goals from Cenk Acar (19) and Gary King (72) gave Chris Rawlinson’s side an impressive away victory on day one.

There was also a key penalty save from Michael Duggan while the score was 1-0.

Spalding host Corby Town, who beat Romulus 5-1, on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

In the ChromaSport UCL, Holbeach are top of the Premier Division after cruising to a 3-0 win over ON Chenecks at Carter’s Park.

Lewis Leckie notched a quick-fire double (pen 18 and 20) gave the Tigers a 2-0 half-time lead, before he turned provider for Will Bird to round off the victory 20 minutes from time.

Holbeach host Peterborough Northern Star on Wednesday night (7.45pm).

In UCL Division One, Pinchbeck remain unbeaten after a 1-1 draw with Lutterworth Town at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Ollie Maltby’s first goal at UCL level was enough to earn the Knights, who next host Bourne Town on Wednesday (7.45pm), a decent point.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Moulton Harrox made it four wins from as many games with a 1-0 victory at Stanground Sports.

Holbeach United Reserves slipped to a 2-1 loss at Deeping Reserves, while Sutton Bridge United bagged their first top flight success by seeing off Thorney 1-0.
