Ambrose feels Spalding Town are far from dead and buried after Grimbsy Town victory

Skipper Rob Ambrose admits that Spalding Town’s hopes of Lincs ECB Premier League survival would have been all but over if they had failed to beat Grimsby last Saturday.

Ambrose led a patched-up side to a seven-wicket success (see page 38) to move off the bottom, but admits it wasn’t as easy as the scoreline suggests.

The Saturday sees in-form Woodhall Spa visit Spalding Grammar School (noon) for the start of a tricky run of fixtures – with Ambrose adamant that his team need a minimum of three wins between now and the end of the season to have any chance of staying up.

He said: “I think we’d have been deep in the mire if we’d lost. To be honest, I’m still not sure how we won so well! We got stuck into them early on and went from there.

“It was vital for us really. We’ve had some poor results lately and selection has been tricky.

“What we need is a minimum of three wins to have a chance, but there are a few more teams in the battle this year.”
