Ground broken on £4.8m highways improvement scheme at Holbeach

A £4.8million highways improvement scheme at Peppermint Junction in Holbeach is under way.

British construction firm Eurovia UK is installing a new, three-arm roundabout at the current A17/A151 junction, as well as a new four-arm roundabout on the A151.

Work is expected to complete by spring 2018. Narrowed lane widths and reduced speed limits to 30mph on the A17 and A151 will be in place for the duration.
The scheme will not only improve the safety of the current junction, but it will provide access to residential land to the east of the A151. It will also open up development land to the west of the A151 for the creation of Peppermint Park, which will include a food enterprise zone (FEZ) and the delivery of approximately 900 new homes.

The FEZ is designed to support agri-food businesses, with a particular focus on the food technology sector. The multi-million pound development will create around 59,000 square metres of new business space.
The FEZ will fuel further growth and prosperity in Holbeach and the surrounding area, as it will be capable of supporting over 2,000 jobs. The University of Lincoln has already submitted a planning application to move part of its existing Holbeach campus to a new, purpose-built facility within the FEZ.

Funding for the project includes £2m from the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Growth Fund, with the remainder to come from developers and Lincolnshire County Council.

  • Work at Sutterton roundabout, which started in January, finished last Friday (May 12). Improvements include lane widening to increase traffic flow, better signage and road markings, and upgraded streetlights at the ‘pinch point’ on the A16 and A17.
  • Improvement and resurfacing works being undertaken throughout the rest of the year include A151 Winsover Road, Spalding (summer/autumn), and Fleet Hargate (autumn/winter).
