Cyclists urged to light up at night

As the clocks go back this weekend, a councillor has returned with his campaign to urge cyclists, ‘Don’t be Dim’.

Coun Mark Le Sage launched Don’t Be Dim – Be a Bright Cyclist last year after he carried out a two hour survey in Spalding where nearly 30 cyclists passed him without noticeable lights.
The initiative has been launched ‘to raise awareness about the dangers cyclists face when riding without lights and reflective clothing’.
“Supported by Halfords and backed by local community leaders and Lincolnshire Police, the campaign aims to reduce road collisions by educating riders about the critical importance of visibility after dark or in low-light conditions,” a spokesman for the campaign said. ” We are also very proud to be collaborating with SHDC youth council who have worked very hard, running their own survey and producing reflective stickers which they are donating to schools in the area.”
Coun Le Sage said: “It’s a personal priority to increase the safety of everyone in South Holland whether they are cyclists or motorists avoiding cyclists without lights on, I want everyone to be safe and I’m very grateful to Lincolnshire Police and Halfords for supporting the Rightside Trust and Ella’s Project with this campaign.”
