Heart-warming Spalding Indoor Bowls club fundraiser nets £641 for BHF

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s annual fundraising event in aid of the British Heart Foundation raised an impressive £641.

The all-day event saw some 72 bowlers play triples matches of seven ends or one hour – whichever came sooner.

The winners were the team with the most points, with shot difference the deciding factor if points were level.

The rinks were supplied free of charge by the Castle Sports Complex’s operating company 1Life as their donation to the charity, which amounted to £288

The members also donated raffle prizes, with more than 90 prizes up for grabs – while the very same members bought tickets, which raised £353, including three donations.

All of the money raised was presented to Helena Mair, Fundraising Manager of the British Heart Foundation for Lincolnshire & Rutland.

As a by-product of the day, Spalding IBC is looking at taking part in a new venture by the Foundation for life saving.

As for the competition, the winners – with six points and +16 shots – were Mick Dolton, Gill Haydon and Vera Elms.

Runners-up, also with six points (+15 shots) were Grace Scott, Harry Soderberg and Pat Murray.

Third place, again six points (+14 shots) were Brian Ivatt, Connie Cronin and Brenda Bowden.

A Spalding IBC club statement said: “Not only was the day enjoyed by everyone, but the generosity of the members was most heartwarming – with winners even wishing to hand back their winnings to the cause.”
