Andy Prior clinched overall glory at Welland Yacht Club’s Sunday Points Series with a double win at the final two rounds on Sunday.
In complete contrast to the previous week, strong blustery conditions were the order of the day for all of the participants.
Race one started with Prior and Paul Burton getting good starts and staying ahead of the pack in the strong conditions, while youngsters Niall Holland and Lucy Burton kept up with the main pack despite being in a slower boat.
Prior went on to win ahead of Paul Burton, with Holland and Lucy Burton third. Fourth place went to Martin Cook ahead of Neal Tack and Ian Dignall in fifth and Harry Whitelam in sixth spot.
By race two the wind had increased, making it a game of survival for some.
But Prior and Paul Burton took the first two results again, despite an early capsize for the latter.
However, in this race, Will Cook and Emma Hill – in the club Enterprise – performed well to take third place.
Overall this meant Prior won the series with five wins out of six, with Tom Bell taking second and Phil Robertson in third.
Overall 18 different helms took part in the series.
Junior sailing sessions resume this Sunday (9.30am-11am) and will be followed by the first cadet race at 11.30am.
