Spalding Town go 31 points clear despite weekend washout, 6-62 in vain for Sutton’s Simpson

Rain ravaged Saturday’s cricket schedule with almost all of the matches across the South Lincs and Border League’s three divisions abandoned.

That included Spalding Town’s Premier Division date with Bourne 2nd, which sees their seven-game winning streak come to a premature end.

They did at least pick up 11 points from the game, having taken six Bourne wickets in 22.3 overs as they reached 52-6 before rain stopped play at Spalding Grammar School.

Dan Milgate (3-16) picked up three of them (all LBW) as he removed George Hartley (14), Jordan Temple (18) and Daniel Whadcock (0).

Roy Tilley (2-0) also got rid of David Greenfield (0) and Josh Bentley (0), while Hafiz Majeed (1-12) clean bowled opener Chris Binns (0).

However, the rain stopped Spalding in full flow and they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Town are 31 points clear at the top of the table ahead of their next game, which is a home clash with Woodhall Spa 2nd on July 9.

Also off was Long Sutton’s Premier Division date with Boston 2nd – and there was also some action in that one.

Rob Simpson’s 6-62 limited Boston to 181-9 at Paradise Field, before the rain denied Sutton the chance to chase the runs down. Simpson’s latest heroics with the ball keep him at the top end of the league’s bowling statistics and take him to 26 wickets for the season.

In Division One, Moulton Harrox looked set to post a strong total against Spalding Town 2nd before rain intervened.

Despite seeing Nohman Ahmad (1-31) trap Matt Barnett (26) LBW, Harrox were on 122-1 before play was abandoned.

Jack Barnett (53 not out) and Joe Broomfield (37 not out) had built an impressive partnership.

Harrox take nine points from that one, with Town 2nd snaring eight to remain 20 points clear at the summit.

In Division Three, both Spalding 3rd and Belton Park 2nd collected eight points each with no play possible at the Memorial Field.
