South Holland District Council has played a key role in supporting the delivery of a community-led housing scheme in Pinchbeck.
The development, which is owned by the Pinchbeck Community Land Trust, will provide 14 new homes to rent for local people. Work on site in Flaxmill Lane is due to begin soon and be complete by the end of this year.
Pinchbeck Community Land Trust (CLT) bought the land from Pinchbeck Parish Council and will work in partnership with Lincolnshire Rural Housing Association, which has a 125-year lease on the site.
The mix of two and three-bedroom homes will have an allotment area and is expected to benefit from a communal biomass heating system.
The £1.4million scheme has been funded by a Homes and Communities Agency grant and private borrowing by the housing association. Pinchbeck Parish Council has also played a vital role in helping to get the scheme off the ground.
Cllr Christine Lawton, South Holland District Council’s portfolio holder for Housing Landlord, said: “We’re very proud to have such an innovative scheme here in South Holland.
“It fits well with our council’s priorities of local housing for local people and increasing supply of good quality, affordable housing.
“It’s good to see a community-led project such as this in action and I look forward to seeing the homes completed and families enjoying living in them.”
Pinchbeck CLT is a non-profit, community based organisation run by local volunteers and says its modest income will help benefit other projects in the village.
Chairman of the trust, Steve Colby, said: “Since our formation in May 2012, we have had considerable help and good advice from John Mather, of Lincolnshire Community Land Trust, who has been our mentor.
“We have liaised closely with the parish council and the district council with the desire to produce attractive homes for rent to Pinchbeck families well in to the future and we trust Westleigh Partnership Homes to deliver the goods.”
The district council’s strategic housing manager Matthew Hogan said: “We have supported a very innovative method of delivering a housing scheme. Anyone interested in living in the homes needs to apply through the district council’s housing register.”
