Veteran Hugh Pinner pocketed the biggest break of the Spalding and District Billiards League season so far on Monday night.
The 80-year-old Holbeach A ace, who plays off an O170 handicap, made a stunning 139 against Consti A.
Pinner, who last won the R Gaunt Trophy for the league’s highest break with a 160 back in 2007, is famed for his 254 made in 1981.
His win over Robert Adams (R30) was in vain, however, as Consti A won the clash 4-3 thanks to Peter Tingle (R90) and Lindsay Porter (R30).
Elsewhere, Long Sutton remain top of the table by a solitary point after they defeated Holbeach B 5-1.
A 61 break from Mark Timms (scr) was their highlight, while Mick Cooper (O80) and Adam Barwell (O50) also trousered scores of 39 and 33 respectively.
Crowland B were the big winners of the week. They thrashed Gosberton B 7-0, with cue ace Rob Childs (O210) once again on fine form.
He made breaks of 36, 27, 24, 23, 22, 21 and 20 in his win over Marcus Pell (O20), while Allan Sharman (R70) also chipped in with a 28 break in his triumph over Peter Waterfall (R100).
There was also a narrow 4-3 victory for Consti B, who edged out Donington.
There were plenty of good breaks in this one too, with Consti’s John Keeton (R30) and Mick Johnson (O170) bagging 53 and 39 respectively, while Donington’s Sid Shaw (O10) made a fine 46.
In the end, it was a 200-197 win for Steve Spencer (R90) over Jim Thompson (R30) that sealed it, despite the latter pocketing a 35 break.
The score was also 4-3 in an all-Bourne battle between Pyramid A and Pyramid B.
This one went the way of the B boys, with Darrell Read (R50) seeing off John Twell (R50) 200-198 in a dramatic final frame. Martin O’Connor (R10) made the best break in that one with a cool 24.
