Pupils learn baking skills in school’s state-of-art kitchen

Children at Ayscoughfee Hall School returned after the summer holidays to find a brand new, state of the art kitchen in which to enjoy their cookery lessons.
Financed largely by the generous efforts of the PTFA, the kitchen includes three ovens, several sinks and ample storage and workspace at child-friendly heights
Headteacher Clare Ogden is delighted by the results.
She explained that although children in Year 3 have had regular cookery lessons with a parent, logistics had prevented more children participating in cookery.
She said: “The new curriculum will include basic education in food hygiene and safety as well as the chance to make pasta dishes, sauces, fruit crumbles and scones.
“We want all our children to leave Ayscoughfee Hall School with a love of cooking and baking, a knowledge of basic techniques and confidence to cook.”
James in Year 4 added: “I really liked making the cheese straws. I did them at home the day after and they were really nice.”
Anyone who would like to see the new kitchen for themselves is welcome to attend the school’s open morning next Wednesday.
