Spalding’s Sam Newton repeated his success of last year and won two gold medals at The Westfield Health British Transplant Games.
He retained his title as archery champion for the 30-39 age category and again helped Addenbrookes’ volleyball team to glory.
Sam (34), of Spalding, fired an archery score of 300 points out of a possible 360, to win by a margin of 45 – and admits to being disappointed.
This despite being hampered by two frozen shoulders and an inflamed tendon in his left shoulder.
“I was happy with how I shot and not happy with how I scored,” said Sam. “I wasn’t able to shoot as I like because my body is not letting me at the moment.
“But I’m happy to have won the gold medal again and hope to make it a hat-trick next year.”
Sam, who underwent a simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplant last year beat a fellow Addenbrookes archer into the silver position, both of them helping the hospital to be the Games’ top team again, this year held in Gateshead.
Sam is targeting a shot at the World Transport Games in Malaga in 2017.
