Getting ready for a spooky parkrun

Saturday is Halloween parkrun at Snowden Field and the Crowland venue is making fancy dress optional but encouraged for runners, joggers, walkers and volunteers.

Last week’s 5K event saw 60 people complete the four-lap course, supported by 20 volunteers.
Among them were three first-time visitors and it was Matt Doherty, from Woodhouse Moor parkrun who was the first finisher in 17mins 7secs – within a minute of the 2019 record of 16:11 set by James McCrae. Remarkably, it was the 16th time in his 23 parkruns in which Doherty has been first into the finish funnel.
The first female finisher was junior 11-14 runner Iris Thomas, seventh overall in 23:05.
Despite the chilly day, 14 participants achieved personal bests.
Three Halmer Harriers were in action, with Rebecca Pearce finishing 35th, 33:22, Janet Strickland 43rd, 35:15, and Debs Norman 55th, 44:23.
Man of their Spalding-based club colleagues were active elsewhere, with Adam Caress fourth home at the unusual windmill-shaped course in Oude Warande, Tilburg, Netherlands, in 23:48.
Four Harriers took on the Endcliffe parkrun in Sheffield and finished within three minutes of each other – Kate Chapman 728th, 36:52; Lisa Gill 740th, 37:57; Becky Webster 741st, 37:58; and Jayne Pell 763rd, 39:38.
Three more were on the North West Norfolk coast at Hunstanton taking on a cliff-top run, with Martin Wallis 15th, 26:03, Siân Brown 27th, 27:21, and Daz Hind 29th, 28:02.
Tod Howard was 69th of 602 at Ferry Meadows near Peterborough, 22:14, and Richard Williams completed the Salisbury parkrun 66th of 387 in 23:09.
