Three divisions are expected for the next Spalding League season, following this week’s AGM, which saw a provisional start list of 27 teams.
After the meeting, the Ladies, Mixed Pairs and Captains Cup competitions were played. There is a new name on the ladies’ trophy with Rachel James (Holbeach Services B) holding her nerve to beat last season’s runner-up Tracey Baldwin (Riverside A) 2-1 in the final.
John Charlton (Lincoln Arms B) kept his good run in the Captains Cup going by beating Tom Elderkin (Pinchbeck FC A).
The mixed pairs event was well supported, with holders Claire Brookin and Ash Allen (Royal Mail Cart) defending their title in style, winning every game without dropping a leg.
In the final they beat a strong mother and son pairing of Dan and Tina Gent (Consti E). Brookin has now won the competition more than 10 times.
