Spalding put their poor Lincolnshire Premier League form behind them to chalk up two wins out of two in the George Marshall T20 Cup, south semi-final.
Grantham were bowled out for 65 inside 12 overs in their opening game. Nilantha Atapattu took 4-19 and Walter Kinlock 3-15 as the visitors lost their last five wickets for just four runs.
It took Spalding less than six overs to collect a nine-wicket win, with Kinlock unbeaten on 30 and fellow opener Chris Dring scoring 23.
Opener Dring got them off to a swift start against Boston in the round-robin encounter with a 31-ball 50, including two 6s and five 4s.
Divyesh Vaseeharan topped that with four 6s and seven 4s in a 34-ball 61, with Barnaby Dring’s 24-ball innings yielding 41 runs, including 24 in boundaries.
It left Spalding on 206/4 from their 20 overs.
Boston also made a lightning start and shot to 73 without loss and 97/1 before the Spalding bowlers started to get on top.
Kinlock (2-17), Barnaby Dring (2-19) and Vaseeharan (2-40) led the way, with Josh Lawrence, Jay White and William Clark also taking a wicket apiece as the visitors were dismissed for 148 with one ball remaining.
That left Spalding top of the mini-table, with Grantham taking second place after beating Boston by 64 runs.
Spalding had beaten Ketton Sports and Bourne in the opening round and now wait to see who they will be playing on finals day.
Moulton Harrox Seconds came within a whisker of chalking up their first Division One South win since the opening day but slipped at the death.
A stunning spell of bowling from Sam Frost saw him take four wickets for a single run in eight balls to reduce short-handed Castor & Ailsworth from 94/5 to 100/9 in the 31st over.
Shanaka Sumanapala had earlier taken 3-19 to pile the pressure on the visitors.
Captain Rob Callaby’s decision to field after winning the toss looked to have paid off and Moulton appeared to be well on the way to victory when they reached 60/2, led by Jamie Juckes’ run-a-ball 32.
However, things then went awry with Stuart Dockerill (7-19) wreaking havoc as Moulton collapsed to 74/8.
Captain Callaby dug in with an unbeaten 11 but ran out of partners as his team succumbed for 98, just three runs short of victory and with more than 20 overs remaining.
Spalding and Long Sutton’s respective second XIs also failed to reach three-figures in their Division Two South defeats.
Spalding were bowled out for 82 in reply to Boston Seconds’ 273/7 after the hosts’ Liam Brooks (110) and Henry Riley (66) put on a match-defining second-wicket stand of 171.
Phil Lewis was the pick of the Spalding bowlers, with 4-33 from six overs.
Richard Riley top-scored for the visitors with 21 but only Jack Sawyer (13) and Dan Mulley (10) joined him in reaching double-figures. Indeed extras (16) were the second highest total.
Meanwhile, at Newborough Seconds, Sutton mustered just 95 in reply to the hosts’ 223.
The top order scored well for Newborough, led by Joe Malton’s 91 from 68 balls. Callum John did his best to get Sutton into the game, with an 8.3-over return of 5-39, while there were two wickets each for Ali Drohan and Rob Simpson.
Rajan Sangha scored the bulk of an opening 39-run stand for the first wicket with Paul Rushen (6). However, his 33, together with Uddyan Hansana’s mid-innings 23 was as good as it got, with four batters out for ducks and no one else passing eight against the formidable David Cope (6-22).
Long Sutton CC’s Cricket Week started with a well spirited game against Boston on Monday.
Sutton won by three runs in an entertaining encounter.
Tuesday saw the first day of the club’s cricket camps with the inaugural Big Sixes tournament that evening too.
