I am concerned by an article in the local press in which a councillor in charge of his party is unable to discern the difference between a ‘very personal vendetta’ and trying to get an answer to a question.
As I see it, councillors are elected to represent their constituency and to raise matters brought to their attention.
Councillor Sheard has raised questions over the format of Spalding Remembrance Parade and service.
Over the last four/five years it has become a farce show rather than a remembrance in honour of those who have gave their lives in World War One, Two and conflicts since.
Councillor Sheard has been briefed by triservice veterans as to enquiries to the format of the 2026 Sunday and to request that the RBL Rule Book format be reinstated.
The council and the RBL are jointly responsible for the organsing the service, band, road closure and march back to the Market Place.
By now it should be finalised and everything in place so veterans can organise themselves.
The fact that the council chair and the RBL chair are the same person doesn’t mean asking the question is a vendetta.
Is the answer to the question denigrating a local councillor?
Are our local councillors a load of school children in the playground of ‘I’m not playing with you, you upset me’?
I always thought we voted for councillors as sentient, intelligent humans but this article makes me think otherwise.
I despair of our council’s duplicity and apathy.
While there are still veterans the problem will still not go away.
I am a veteran and during my service attended five altercations during the mythical 80 years of peace.
I am medically unable now to march, but still expect military standards to be maintained.
As leader Coun Worth, – get a grip of your party or do a Starmer and let someone who will?
