Councillors have paid tribute to a district councillor after his death.
David Wilkinson was one of the members of South Holland District Council from 2007 to 2015 and then again from 2019 until his passing on May 27.
Councillors paid tribute at last week’s meeting of the council.
A statement from fellow Long Sutton ward councillor Jack Tyrrell said: “I’ve known David for many years and we hit it off the moment we met.
“I can’t remember David ever saying no to helping anyone, least of all me.
“David will be truly missed, a family man, a husband to Annette, a father to Mark and Rob and a good friend to me.
“They say if you can have one good friend in life you can rely on then you’re a lucky man, well I’ve found myself lucky to call David my friend.”
Coun Bryan Alcock said David was a natural at asking searching questions when it came to scrutiny.
“I was very fortunate to call him a friend,” he said.
“As a family man he’ll be sadly missed and he’s a great loss to Long Sutton and Lutton.
“Thanks for the memories David.”
Chair Coun Jan Whitbourn said he went out of his way to help as many people as he could: “David was highly regarded throughout South Holland as an effective councillor for Long Sutton.
“He was well respected and liked throughout the community he served.
“We wish the deepest sympathies to David’s family at this very difficult time.”
A by-election for the vacant Long Sutton seat will take place on Thursday, July 30.
The candidates are Naomi Andrews (Conservative), James Timpson (Green Part) and Robbie Woods (Reform UK).
