A South Holland resident was back in Parliament recently campaigning for better awareness of lung conditions.
Ron Flewett had to have a double lung transplant after being diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) around 12 years ago.
As part of the charity Taskforce in Lung Health, he and wife Maxine joined South Holland MP Sir John Hayes at an event in London for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Sir John learned that in his constituency 7.2 per cen of people have asthma and 2.36 per cent live with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD.
The MP called for ‘respiratory health to be prioritised and for urgent action be taken to combat poor lung health in England’.
“When breathing is hard nothing is easy and I know many people in our area are struggling to work, get to shops or play with their children or grandchildren because their lung condition isn’t being well managed,” Sir John said. “It’s vital that the UK’s approach to lung health improves and I will do all I can in Parliament to press for a national strategy to better coordinate care.”
