Fox and Fowler lift annual Saville Cup

Spalding Rugby Club’s 10th annual golf day at Spalding Golf Club put 68 golfers through their paces, including 12 first-team squad members

Continuous rain did not spoil the event with all but one team completing the full 18 holes.

An outstanding score of 49 points earned victory for Stephan Fox and Ben Fowler who were presented with the Brian Saville Cup.

The two pairs of runners-up could not be separated on countback, both with 47. James Doolan with Phill King and Tom Duerden with Michael Beeken had to share the second-place prize.

The ladies prize was won by Naomi Smith and Lily Craven on 37 points.

The halfway house was another standout success with home-baked cakes and refreshments plus shelter from the rain offered by Susie Jullien, Tina Burleton and Kate Pease along with other volunteers.

Winner of the President’s Putting Competition was Phil Ingleby.

The day was supported by Emerald Homes, along with individual holes sponsored by local businesses. The rugby club thanked everyone for their support.

George Brown, of Emerald Homes Group, said: “Events such as this bring the local business community together, raising valuable funds for the charitable work undertaken by Spalding Rugby Club.

“Emerald Homes is proud to support initiatives that make a real difference locally.

“I would also like to commend Spalding Golf Club, which once again demonstrated why it is regarded as one of the finest courses in the region.”
