Bug into hotel at Ayscoughfee

A new hotel for creepy crawlies has been created in Ayscoughfee Hall Gardens courtesy of a local group.

The PE11 Men’s Shed created a bug hotel for the Spalding museum, similar to the one it’s installed at Spalding Station.

Having seen that one, the management team at South Holland District Council-run Ayscoughfee approached the group see if it could create one for its site. With funding by Westone, a group the authority contracts to carry out repairs to its housing portfolio, PE11 members worked together to create the new bug hotel.

They’re also working on a series of bird boxes to be developed later in the year.

A statement attributed to both Coun Henry Bingham, and Coun Liz Sneath, said: “We are very grateful to the members of the PE11 Men’s Shed for their hard work in creating this fantastic bug hotel for Ayscoughfee Gardens.

“Projects like this support local wildlife, showcase the skills of our volunteers and strengthen community partnerships across the district.

“We’re delighted to see community funding used so positively and look forward to the bird boxes being installed later this year to continue enhancing this much‑loved space.”
