A football club has launched a petition after its landlord served notice on its operations.
Pinchbeck United has six junior football teams at the site and runs the social club at its Knight Street base.
But Pinchbeck Parish Council has given them notice to stop using the facility by July 31.
The first team has not played games there for nearly ten years, due to the Football Association requiring teams at their level to have fenced off facilities.
The parish council has previously said it couldn’t do that because the playing field was given to them to be used by the whole community.
It has now served notice on all of the Pinchbeck teams over what it calls a ‘difference of view’ on the ‘occupation arrangements’ which it says could potentially go to court.
Pinchbeck United said: “The club has been part of the Pinchbeck community for many decades and has invested significant time, effort and resources into developing football and other community activities at the site.
“We are currently taking professional legal advice to fully understand the position and to ensure that the long-term interests of the club are properly protected with the full support from our county football association and Football Foundation.”
Launching the Change.org petition Save our football club and field, it said: “This isn’t just about a football pitch.
“It’s about, protecting grassroots football, supporting all sports that operate from our clubhouse, safeguarding a community facility and securing the future.”
James Avery, vice chairman of Pinchbeck Parish Council, said it remains committed to supporting sport and community activity in the parish.
“However, the Glebe Field is an asset held for the benefit of the whole community, and the parish council has a legal duty to ensure that its use is lawful, properly governed and in the public interest.
“There is a difference of view between the parish council and Pinchbeck United Limited regarding the current legal basis of the occupation arrangements. Given the increasingly legal nature of the issues, the parish council has taken professional advice.
“A formal notice has been served to terminate the current licence to occupy the Glebe Field, requiring the company to cease use and give vacant possession on or before July 31.
“The parish council remains willing to seek an agreed, legally compliant arrangement for continued football use, but that now depends on Pinchbeck United Limited engaging properly in structured negotiations through its instructed legal representatives.”
