Volunteers from Pinchbeck Community Hub and Library have been presented with a very special gift to display in their children’s reading space.
The two unique stained glass designs were planned and crafted by local children, aged eight to 11 years old, during a recent Spalding Gentlemen’s Society workshop at the Hub.
“We brought children together to learn the traditional skill of stained glass making,” says Louisa Evans, from Spalding Gentlemen’s Society. “The children loved working on the project to create their individual pieces, which were then combined to create one overall design.
“They also planned out a fantastic ‘tower of books’ as their second piece.”
For this, the children added their creativity by deciding their favourite books to picture and the colours they wanted.
The two stained glass designs were finalised by the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society team, ready to be displayed above the children’s reading area at the Hub.
“We’re so pleased that all visitors to the Hub will be able to see the hard work and creativity of our local children displayed for everyone to see – so do pop down to see the results for yourself!” adds Louisa.
Spalding Gentlemen’s Society’s next children’s workshop will be ‘Church Explorers: Looking at Stonemasons’ Works’, held on Tuesday February 17, from 10am to 1pm.
Attendees will get the chance to discover all about stonemasons’ marks, learn the difference between gargoyles and grotesques, make their own clay versions, and try soap carving too.
This is a drop-in event suitable for ages 5+. £5 per child.
Parents and guardians are required to stay with their child throughout the event, which will be held at The Parish Church of St Mary, Church Street, Pinchbeck PE11 3UA.
