A Holbeach man has been celebrating a life-saving match.
It was only two Saturdays ago that Dan Chapman was having his Day of Donation to encourage people in South Holland to sign up for platelet donation.
It’s because the 31-year-old has aplastic anaemia, a condition that means he needs a platelet transfusion to save his life.
Last Wednesday he got the news that a perfect match had been found.
Dan said: “That donor probably doesn’t think it is anything much, but to me, that swab and that transplant ultimately means everything.
“I’ve spent months telling people that all it takes to save a life is a simple mouth swab to join the stem cell donor register.
“Now, that same very simple action – someone taking a swab and registering as a potential donor – is going to save my life.
“It’s all still sinking in but to my donor, thank you.”
