Terry’s 17 years on the river

A familiar face who has been sailing around Spalding for 17 years has stepped down.

Terry Carter has been piloting the Spalding Water Taxi since 2008, but stepped down on the completion of this year’s season.

Terry decided to retire as a coach driver aged 70 when he saw an advert to pilot the water taxi.

To mark his retirement and end of the season, everyone associated with Spalding Water Taxi got together for a special dinner.

Chief organiser of the water taxi Anthony Grunwell said: “Terry is a true gentleman in the traditional sense.

“He’s always willing to help out if he can.

“He has been an enormous support and help to me over the years I have been at the helm.

“I have never seen him get flustered or agitated yet he is quite happy to tell you what is what but in that gentlemanly manner.

“Personally, I will miss him but I know my colleagues will too.

“He will continue to be a friend of the Water Taxi though.”
