The top-two in the South Lincs Border League Championship went head to head and a four-wicket win put Moulton Harrox back in the title hunt.
They cut Newborough’s advantage over them to just six points, with three games to go.
After losing the toss, captain Matt Rose’s side were asked to field. Newborough got off to a strong start before Paul Edgeller (2-31) broke the opening partnership. Curtis Todd continued his excellent form, producing a destructive spell of 5-27 from nine overs, including the key wicket of Newborough captain David Cooper for 69 as their innings was wrapped up for 142.
In reply, Jamie Juckes raced to 19 before seeing his off stump cartwheeled. Contributions from Matt Barnett, Flynn McMillan, Ruari Drumm and Edgeller kept Moulton ticking, before captain Rose took centre-stage. Leaning heavily on his leg-side game, he dug in for a match-winning unbeaten 42, supported by Lewis Martin (14no), to steer Moulton to victory.
The club’s second XI made it a winning double with a 70-run success against their Boston counterparts in Division One.
Captain Rob Callaby lost the toss and was asked to bat and a counter-attacking 50-run partnership between Lewis Peak (19) and Eranda Kumara (51) steadied the innings, with Thilina Dilshan adding 33.
The middle order struggled before ninth-wicket pair Pradeep Indika (31no) and his captain (15no) saw the tail push Moulton to a competitive 194/8.
Boston’s reply was led by captain Liam Brooks, who struck a fine 70, but Dilshan turned the game with a special spell of 5-35. Indika (2-6), Carl Lamming (2-39) and Harry Shersby (1-23) ensured there was no way back for the visitors, bowling them out for 124.
