Generosity helps funeral funding

A widower said he and his five children were moved to tears by the generosity of the community who have helped pay for a mother of five’s funeral.

Kathryn Webster of Weston died after a short heart-related illness on June 1, aged just 42.

Her husband Carl called her ‘the most inspirational mum’ to Luci, Brendan, Charleigh, Andi and Cory.

He set up a Go Fund Me page on the internet to help pay for the funeral that’s seen £3,690 raised in Kathryn’s memory.

“It’s amazing,” said Carl. “We weren’t the richest family.

“One anonymous person donated £1,000 which brought us all to tears.

“There are some absolutely fantastic people in this world.

“Kathryn loved people and people loved her. She was so friendly towards everyone she met.

“A shopping trip to Morrisons could take hours because soon as she saw someone she knew she had to stop for a chat.”

Carl described Kathryn as an amazing mum to two sets of twins.

She was the full time carer of her sons Brendan (22) and Cory (16) who both have a rare genetic condition called Aaskogs Scott Syndrome. She also cared for her mum Christine since the death of her dad, Wally Pepper, in October 2023.

“If there was anything she could do to make the kids lives better, she was there,” he continued. “Nothing was too much trouble, even fetching them home from the middle of the night from a party.

“She used to have hundreds of pictures on her phone of them and she would proudly show anyone who looked vaguely interested.

“She was an exceptional wife too. I’ve had my demons over the years. PTSD and mobility issues, but Kathryn never batted an eyelid.

“She just scooped me up metaphorically speaking and helped me sort my head out. She was just a caring soul full stop.

“She was very funny too, with one liners being her strong point.”

Kathryn’s loves included animated sci-fi comedy Lilo and Stitch. Carl and the three eldest children have all had character tattoos in her memory.

She also loved her dogs and was a regular at Crufts, as well as a passionate supporter of West Ham FC.
Carl says Kathryn was rarely out of a West Ham kit, but would occasionally wear the colour of Jamaica, the national team of her favourite player Mikel Antonio.

Her funeral will be on Monday (July 21) at St Mary’s Church in Pinchbeck, and will include bubbles and claret and blue flares in reference to the club.

“The hardest thing is telling people exactly how she died,” said Carl. “It was so quick. She was admitted to hospital and a week later she passed away with us all at her bed side.

“She was only 42, with so many plans and memories we were wanting to have.

“I miss her so much, but I know I have stay strong and bring the kids up to her living standards.”
