Half-marathon podium spot for Garkalne

Halmer Harriers were out in numbers at the Peterborough Running Festival with plenty of medals well earned in Sunday’s heat.

Matthew Earth’s 1:33:32 gun time was the fastest for Halmer Harriers in the half-marathon, earning him 22nd place (23rd on chip time) of the 278 finishers.

Tim Ulyatt was just behind in 26th place, despite a quicker chip time of 1:32:33.

James Harrison clocked 1:37:37 and Maija Garkalne picked up medals for her efforts as the first FV35 finisher in 1:38:44, third female overall.

Pawel Szpakowski MV35 was 73rd in 1:46:22 and Joanna Neal finished as the third FV50 in 2:11:47.

Victor Bronizewski was the first Halmer Harrier home in the 10K, finishing 43rd overall of the 366 runners and fifth MV35 in 46:28. Lisa Gill (50) had a better chip time of 1:01:05, but conceded 185th place to Sian Brown, whose gun time was 38 seconds faster and earned her fourth place in the FV45 category.

Linda Allard was the first FV60 finisher in 1:01:44, with clubmate Annette Gudgeon second FV65 in 1:02:15. Second FV60 was Carol Sycamore, 1:02:47, ahead of Rebecca Webster, FV45 1:03:47, and Bridgitte Seymour, FV50, 1:03:48.

MV40 Daniel Hollis clocked 1:04:00 for an overall 232nd place finish and Debs Norman took third FV60 spot in 1:06:28. Other chip times were: Alexandra Gills 1:08:54; Deborah Preston 1:09:21; and Pete Stafford 1:10:59;

In the 5K, Jayne Pell finished 62nd in 36:50, third in the FV55 category, with Kathryn Chapman nine places behind, second FV60, in 38:23 and Della Smith 78th, third FV50, 40:04.

A re-enactment of the 1643 Siege of Crowland Abbey meant there was no Snowden Field Parkrun on Saturday.

The venue will also be out of action on July 12 due to another booking.

The absence of a local venue did not deter members of Spalding’s Halmer Harriers from taking to the paths and tracks elsewhere.

Four Harriers were at the Ferry Meadows Parkrun in Peterborough. Lisa Gill was 375th of 616 finishers in 32:00, accompanied by Jenny Braybrook, 482nd 36:14, Jayne Pell 519th 38:57, and Kathryn Chapman 531st 39:59.

At Boston, Emily Brown was the 14th female across the line, 67th overall of 158, in 29:36, while Richard Williams was 54th of 393 at Belton House, Grantham, in 24:42.

Simon Eldridge clocked 24:42 for 14th place of 105 at Manor Field Whittlesey and at a well-attended Battersea event, Adam Caress took things steady to clock 48:58 in a field of 1,011.
