Court hears of attempted rape claim

A boy who was allegedly abused by a Spalding man told a school friend that he had been raped, a court heard.

Marvin Scampion, 47, of Edward Road, is on trial at Lincoln Crown Court. He denies nine sexual offences against two children and one charge of child cruelty.

The charges include five sexual offences against a boy under the age of 13 between April 2008 and December 2011.

They include a charge of attempted rape, two charges of sexual assault and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

He is also charged with causing or inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Giving evidence the complainant, now a young adult, confirmed that in early 2020 he told another pupil that he had previously been raped.

When asked to confirm if he used the word ‘rape’ the complainant added: “But I didn’t really know what it meant.”

The complainant said the other pupil did ask him if he had told a member of staff.

He replied: “I told her I hadn’t, because of my age, because I was young, I didn’t understand the situation.”

“I hadn’t thought about it,” he added.

The complainant was also asked why he had told a senior member of staff that he had been raped six times.

He replied: “He (Scampion) tried to.”

Scampion also faces two charges of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by touching and two charges of engaging in sexual activity while a child is present.

Those four charges are alleged to have occurred between January 2015 and July 2016.

Scampion also denies a tenth charge of cruelty to a child aged under 16.

The trial continues.
