Hardy runners beat Storm Darragh to raise hundreds for charity as Spalding hosted a first festive fun run on Sunday.
The inaugural Chairman’s Santa Fun Run was saw attendees take on the 4.5km course around the town centre.
South Holland District Council chair Andrew Woolf organised the event as part of his fundraising for Blood Cancer UK and the Spalding branch of Mencap.
“It went really well,” he said. “That’s despite Storm Darragh.
“I did wonder if we were doing the right thing when I heard the weather in the morning, but it brightened for us.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy it and had a smile on their face.
“It was fantastic seeing so many people in festive attire running through the town. It was great to raise more money for the charities.”
The (1406) Spalding Air Cadet Squadron provided a guard of honour for the start and for the handing out of medals at the end by vice chair Jan Whitbourn.
“It was a real team effort,” Coun Woolf continued. “I couldn’t have done it without Halmer Harriers who were brilliant.
“Thanks also to the air cadets, South Lincs Security, Spalding Swimming Club, Crusader Traffic Management and Spalding Flower Parade whose queen Becs Roberts took part.”
