Green light for new crossing

A new crossing has been installed which a councillor says is long awaited.

The puffin crossing has been put up on Spalding Road in Holbeach outside William Stukeley Primary School.
Despite the opposition of a local business, it’s been implemented after six weeks of work.
Coun Tracey Carter, county councillor for Holbeach, said: “I’m really happy to see this much-needed crossing fully-built as parents have been calling for it to be built for years.
“Now it’s open, schoolchildren, parents and others can safely cross Spalding Road to get to and from the school and town.
“I want to thank everyone who’s helped make this important piece of infrastructure a reality.”
Lincolnshire County Council says its part of a ‘Community Crossing Initiative’ with £3.8m intended to be spent on 10 new crossings.
Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “This initiative is a perfect example of councillors delivering for their local residents, since all of these new crossings will not only increase safety, but also improve the lives of those living in the communities where they’re located by making it easier to get around by foot.”
